Comments about ATAK-CIV (Civil Use) Android Version

An excellent tool for coordinating public safety agencies during planned events or emergencies. You have to do some work to tap the full potential of the product. For example, gathering links for better maps or importing Digital Terrain Elevation Data. However, once you do, it's gold. Fair warning, though... it will crush your battery. Be prepared.
The learning curve for this software is much steeper than your typical "mobile app". You'll need to read the manual and train your team in how to use it. It takes a bit of work to get maps and elevation data imported. Once that's done the app's functionality in geospatial awareness is very deep and can be made to work offline. You'll have to run your own server to get the most out of the "Team Awareness" features of this software if your office doesn't already have one set up. It's not exactly turn-key in terms of ease of use, but ATAK can be a game changer for work and play with the right infrastructure. I mostly use it for measuring distances and altitudes on a map and keeping track of my team when out biking, so I'm only scratching the surface of ATAK's functionality.
This app is a huge security/opsec risk. App won't run without giving it full access to camera, microphone, gps location, management of all files and storage access, ALL THE TIME. Cannot set permissions to "Only while using the app." This allows for an unknown remote entity to have full control over your device at any time, even when not using the app. No thanks - deleted.
