This app provides an easy to use tuner for the cello. A pitch detection algorithm (optimised for string instruments) is used with the device microphone to deliver accurate measurements of note frequencies. When a note is played, if it is recognised as an open string on the cello, the relevant string is highlighted and a graphical indication given of any tuning action required (i.e. whether the note is flat or sharp and which direction to turn the relevant tuning peg). A dial also indicates the note frequency, closest recognised note and the degree of deviation from the ideal frequency for that note.

When the app is launched, the mic is automatically activated and you then simply play each open string and follow the advice for any tuning required. It really could not be simpler!

A traditional style metronome is also provided with authentic "tock". Slide the metronome dial up and down the pendulum to adjust required beats per minute (BPM). In addition to the selected BPM, details of the associated tempo selected are also given (e.g. "allegro").

This app has been designed for ease of use by anyone of any age. If you can bow a cello, you can use the app! It makes strong use of imagery for interacting with the app and presenting information. This makes it intuitive to use and avoids the need for separate configuration screens or complex user interfaces. Keeping it simple is the goal without compromising on delivery of a professional level degree of accuracy for both the tuner and the metronome.
