LastQuake Description
[LastQuake is an ad-free app!]
╍ NEW VERSION ╍
We're excited to introduce you to this new version of LastQuake, designed to provide an improved user experience and more advanced features for tracking earthquakes in your area and around the world.
What's new in this version:
- A dynamic home page with an interactive map showing the distribution of earthquakes around the world. This feature provides a better understanding of seismic activity in your region and around the world.
- A search function now allows you to quickly find earthquakes by specifying date, magnitude, and geographic region. You can then filter earthquakes based on your personal criteria.
- You can now save earthquakes for quick and easy access to information. This feature allows you to keep track of important earthquakes and their progress.
- You can now customize your notifications to receive alerts according to your preferences: voice alert, earthquakes near you, minimum magnitude, maximum distance, etc.
- Following feedback from users who complained that the home page didn't provide enough information about earthquakes at a glance and that they preferred the earthquake list, we've added the ability to choose which page you land on directly when you open the application (the classic home page or the earthquake list).
- Automatic translation of comments when you click on them.
╍ AN INNOVATIVE EARTHQUAKE DETECTION METHOD ╍
EMSC detects earthquakes using:
∘ Earthquake witnesses, who are the first to feel an earthquake, hence the first informed that an event is happening.
∘ Internet and mobile technologies, which allow rapid information collection of the effects observed by witnesses, who are asked to fill in a questionnaire and share photos and videos.

╍ YOUR INVOLVEMENT MATTERS ╍
LastQuake is a citizen science project. Your contribution helps refine our understanding of earthquake effects while fostering our support in disaster preparation and response.
╍ WHAT IS EMSC? ╍
EMSC is an international non-profit scientific NGO founded in 1975. Based in France, EMSC federates data from the seismological observatories of 86 institutes from 57 countries. While operating a real-time earthquake information service, EMSC advocates for public participation in scientific research. Its core product, LastQuake, paves the way for innovative approaches to building more disaster-resilient communities, making EMSC among the pioneers of disaster apps dedicated to earthquakes and tsunamis.

Comments about LastQuake Android Version
Firstly this is a fantastic app. I live in So Cali so quakes are virtually part of everyday life just about. I've used this app on 2 other phones and the app has been flawless! Great knowing what's going on before the news media does. I just upgraded to a new Google Pixel 8 Pro phone running Android 14 and I'm still getting the notifications of quakes like always, but when I tap the notification, the app is just a blank gray screen. Not sure if it's incompatible with the phone or Android 14...
I really like this app a lot. I like the interface, the graphics, and the info it gives. But sometimes it doesn't work like I expect it to. At times, some of the smaller aftershocks I was tracking disappear from the list. When I set it to only quakes near me, sometimes it still gives me info for places that are on the other side of the world. Sometimes it doesn't display at all. I've tried some other apps, but I keep coming back to this one. I just wished it worked more consistently.
App worked well until recently; I was able to see where quakes had occurred worldwide & what their severity was. Now, for reasons unknown, I receive no reports of any quakes anywhere... I just have a blank gray screen. (Android phone, if that matters). Tried uninstalling and re-installing the app, with no improvement. So, now I have an earthquake app that does nothing but occupy system resources. Thus, the one-star rating. Too bad, guys. App was good before, but went off the rails somewhere.
