Omikuji Description
Omikuji is a Japanese cultural tradition popular with everyone – all ages and generations! And now it’s even popular with the tourists. Omikuji is a tradition rooted in religious philosophy and therefore, a service offered by Shrines and Temples. To do Omikuji, you simply draw a paper that offers you a treasured statement about your life. Some temples and shrines carry Omikuji in English. Now you can enjoy Omikuji on your smart phone in six different languages!
Omikuji App offers Omikuji in Japanese, English, French, German, Italian and Vietnamese. And more languages will soon be added!
Traditionally, when people visit temples or shrines, they draw a stick with a number on it from a container and give it to the Shrine Maiden, Miko. Miko then gives the Omikuji paper that matches the number on the stick. If the Omikuji is unfavorable, people often tie that Omikuji to a nearby tree twig within the shrine or temple grounds believing that by leaving it there, it will not come true.
