SECOND EDIT: Recently (since the last update?) ads will auto-open the play store and occasionally auto-play audio. For an audio-driven app, this is unacceptable. I've used and loved podkicker for years, which makes the recent issues all the more frustrating. I see in the reviews that I'm not the only one experiencing this, so I'm going to give it a little more time to see if they fix these issues before jumping ship.
I have used this as my podcast app for about 10 years now, but it's getting harder to recommend. The ads are getting more aggressive, often opening Google Play to download a crypto or sports betting app. Then there's the begging to upgrade to the premium version, which would presumably stop the irritating ads. Seems a little bit like they know how annoying it is and want me to pay to make it go away. I understand the need to generate revenue, but there must be a less intrusive way.
Edit: I'm down grading my review to 3 stars because of the annoying issue (and other issues mentioned, some resolved) of the volume randomly lowering during the playing of podcasts. I have checked the individual podcast settings and the app settings and haven't been able to resolve the issue. I don't experience this on YouTube or while using my music app Seriously looking for a new podcast app. As you should.
