Samsung HW-S800B guide Description
Samsung HW-S800B S-Series review
The bar is 'Ultra Slim', the wireless sub is a cracker. This is an impressive combo given the style focus. Tested at £649 / $899 / AU$999
Early Verdict
An excellent little subwoofer allows this combo to deliver a high quality sound despite the bar’s slender dimensions, justifying even its full price – and it is often available for less.
Samsung has been releasing great-sounding soundbars ever since it set up an audio lab in California, as part of Samsung Research America under Allan Devantier.
The lab includes testing and measuring facilities that follow the tenets of the legendary National Research Council of Canada as developed by the equally legendary Dr Floyd Toole, and this is no coincidence, since Devantier came to Samsung from Harman (before Samsung bought the company). He professed his devotion to Floyd Toole’s methods when we spoke to him back in 2017, just as the first fruits of the Californian lab arrived in Australia.
“I’ve known Floyd since I was about 17 years old, so he’s like a father to me,” Allan Devantier told us then. “I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for him and my years at Harman learning from him, and of course other people like Laurie Fincham was there at the time, Don [D.B.] Keale, Richard Small – these are all giants of the industry.

The Samsung HW-S800B soundbar is ideal for anyone who wants something lifestyle-friendly, discreet and impressive sounding. Read our full review.
The Samsung HW-S800B is the latest lifestyle-oriented soundbar from the brand, and represents a new direction, with its stylish and ultra-slim cabinet, combined with a compact subwoofer using a force-cancelling design to generate deeper bass.
The result is a discreet system that can conveniently and effectively deliver Dolby Atmos immersion with the minimum of compromise. Need big sound without the big footprint? Read on for our full review.
The Samsung HW-S800B rewrites the book on what an ultra-slim soundbar can achieve, and handles Dolby Atmos with skill - the option to add wireless rear speakers only bolstering the effect. With good bass response and built-in Alexa, only the Mini HDMI connection really disappoints. It's ideal for anyone who wants something lifestyle-friendly, discreet and impressive sounding.
Samsung’s slim-profile soundbar offers plenty of sonic fireworks, especially with Dolby Atmos, but the lack of a mini-HDMI cable and awkward LED indicators are unnecessary complications.
The Samsung HW-S800B is a 2022 release from the manufacturer with a unique design. It's a very slim soundbar, packing two up-firing Dolby Atmos drivers into a frame with a much smaller footprint than other 2022 offerings like the Samsung HW-Q910B and the Samsung HW-Q930B. There's also a subwoofer, albeit a small one, to improve its bass reproduction. Like Samsung's other top models, you get access to the brand's wide selection of customization tools, like a 7-band graphic EQ, as well as Q-Symphony capabilities with compatible Samsung TVs. If you want to add on satellites, you'll need to purchase them separately.
