Gobang, also known as Gomoku or Five-in-a-Row, originated in China and is one of the competitive events in the National Mind Sports Games. It is a pure strategy board game played by two players. Each player uses either black or white pieces, placing them on the intersections of the vertical and horizontal lines on the board. The player who first forms a continuous line of five pieces in a row—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—wins the game.
