On the surface, the game is f2p friendly and allows for progress through most all of the content with relative ease. The devs provide a lot of codes, free gifts, etc. However, the game is a hardline pay to win mess and has extreme power creep on new release of characters. Each new character is leaps and bounds better than the previous and are unavailable for weeks or months unless a significant amount of money is spent to obtain them. Save time and money and don't bother with this game.

Overall, great game! The story is impossible to follow if you're not familiar with the novel/anime, but is not the main point of the game. (I actually started the anime since I liked the game--highly reccomend!) Only criticism I have of gameplay is that the balance of team leveling up is a bit off, I get stuck for a while trying to get my team level up. Lots of freebies, attendance is rewarded more than time spent, which I like, but of course top server spots are held by p2w players.

The developers and artists did a great job with the game, the app works well, it's very smooth, things look fantastic. The game design on the other hand is lacking. There is basically no customization, which is sad because the idea of choosing your soul rings and soul skills is one of the coolest things about the soul land IP. After a certain point, the game is just farm farm farm (but you have to buy stam cause it refills at a glacial pace), just for more atk/health. It's a shame.
