Surah Al-Quraisy Description
Surah Al-Quraysh (106th Surah in the Qur'an) is one of the short surahs in the Qur'an which consists of 4 verses. This surah is also included in the group of Makkiyah surahs, which means that this surah was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad in the city of Mecca before his migration to Medina.
Surah Al-Quraysh highlights the importance of the security and well-being bestowed by Allah on the Quraysh tribe, the tribe of the Prophet Muhammad himself. This surah reminds them of the blessings they will receive, including security during the winter and summer when they go on trade trips.
The following is the translation of Surah Al-Quraish in English:
"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh -
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer -
Let them worship the Lord of this House,
Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and making them safe, [saving them] from fear." (Quran 106:1-4)
It means:
"In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
(Because) the customs of the people of Quraysh,
(namely) their habits in trade trips, both in winter and in summer.
So let them worship the Lord (owner) of this house (Kaaba),
Who has fed them to relieve hunger and secure them from fear." (Surah Al-Quraish: 1-4)
Surah Al-Quraisy teaches the importance of being grateful to Allah for the blessings He has bestowed and acknowledging that it is Allah who gives them sustenance and security. This surah also invites the Quraysh to worship God, the Most Gracious and Most Merciful, who has provided for all their needs.
